Teaching

My goal is to emphasize the enjoyment of learning in an effort to develop a lifelong passion for the game of golf and to communicate fundamental golf technique in a manner that best suits each student. I provide a fun and safe learning environment while offering quality golf instruction to students of all ages and skill levels.

Approach:

  • Evaluating a students physical ability or limitations

  • Never ask a student to do something they are physically incapable of doing

  • I try to remove miscosemptions of how to swing and how to play the game of golf

  • I have a heavy emphasis on the swing fundementals; i.e. Grip, Alignment and Posture

  • Create an understanding that not every shot is going to be perfect

  • Golf is a game, make it fun to play

  • Create a great communication and friendly bonding with the student

(above) By implementing thoughtful tools and drills, I am helping my student learn the fundamentals of a Pivot. Notice how her 1st swing she comes way out of posture and does not pivot. In the 2nd photo she is using a hand made device of mine to help pivot correctly. Look at the changes.

(above)Here is a photo of one of my top junior golfers. Notice in her first attempt of swinging the club she does not fully extend out towards her target. If she continued to swing like this, she would have no power and create a very arms like swing and create many mis shots. Notice in only 5 swings the difference in her extension and the motion of her body. It is now towards the target more and will help her create much more power!

(below) Here are two photos of two different items I might use when I am giving a lesson to one of my students. Being able to see your swing immediately after a shot helps both the student and the teacher to help diagnose what they need to work on. In the 2nd photo, I am using a Foresight GCQuad Launch Monitor to help a student better understand his or her numbers. I can fully operate Foresight, Trackman and Flightscope and be able to relay to my student what each number means and how we got to that point or what needs to be done.

(below) Here is a photo of our advanced Junior Golf Program! Every Wednesday morning at the Wianno Club, the juniors have a chance to play with the golf pro's and learn during a 9 Hole golf round.

(below) Here is two photos of one of my wonderful juniors who over the past 4 seasons has taken many lessons from me. She has great golf ability, but usually our biggest focus on her golf swing was her posture. Can you see the changes? In the first photo, we couldn't see her face. This caused her to "chunk" the ball too many times as she was looking straight down at the ground. Notice in the second photo. Her head is upright and looking at the ball. You should have seen the shot she hit after this!

(below) Something that you can see in my teaching practices, is I teach a lot of juniors. Juniors are the future of our sport and having the honor to teach juniors is a very strong passion of mine. Juniors best learn when they are activating into games, simply put...having fun. Notice these two photos below. The first one is with three young girls standing next to some golf ball baskets. This is a game we call Tower of Power and the first to knock down the tower is the winner. The photo on the right shows my commitment to juniors and making learning the game of golf fun. Look at my golf cart, you can see all the games I have on it to make my upcoming lessons fun!

(below) Below are two photos of two different students of mine at Wianno. The one on the left the member came to me saying he was going to Scotland and Ireland for 14 days to play golf, and he was having a lot of trouble getting out of the bunkers. It's a little hard to see, but if you can see closely inside the golf bag in front of him is a ball retriever. We tried to imagine what the bunkers in Scotland and Ireland would be like as well as working on proper technique of opening the club face and hitting slightly behind the ball. He played some of his best golf on his trip and got out of every single bunker.

The second photo is a member of mine who is just taking up the game of golf. He spent numerous hours in lessons and on the range in hopes of becoming a great golfer. One of his biggest problems in the golf swing was his follow through, he always held back on his right heel and never fully got to his "left side" or rotated properly. Under his right foot you can see a wedge sticking up. The goal of this is to have the wedge fall to the ground after he has struck the golf ball. This will enable him to make a proper turn and hope to finish on his left side.

(below) Not much needs to be said for this young superstar. He is 8 years of age, and look at that swing. Over the course of 3 seasons with him he would consistently shoot in the low 80s from our family course tees which are a total of 3500 yards. He has everything in the game from the long ball, mid irons and his putting might be his best overall. This summer we worked especially hard on our rotation of the golf ball, you can see his head is still slightly to far in front of the golf ball which causes many times a reverse pivot. But at the end of the summer, he had his golf game at the highest level he has ever had it at.

(below) working with a student of mine to help cure his slice. Here is a before and after photo of us working on three things. Separation in the right arm from the body, left elbow closer to the body and the feeling of swinging around his body. He now hits straight shots or little draws

(below) I am currently a staff player for Ping Golf Products. Here is a photo of a Demo day that I personally ran at Hole-In-The-Wall. The local PING rep was nice enough to let us borrow his equipment for the day and me and my staff ran the event. It was very successful
